Key Lime Pie Tragedy
This is what happens when you don't thoroughly read a recipe .....
Key Lime Pie Disaster!
I thought it'd be nice to prepare a key lime pie for my folks arrival tomorrow as I had bought fresh key lime juice while in California. So I mix the milk, eggs and juice and pour them into the graham cracker pie shell. And into the oven it goes. It's busy baking away and is supposed to go 15 minutes at 350°. Fine. But after the 15 minutes tick away the blessed pie is still real runny ... damn thing hasn't set. Okay, fine, I'll bake it a further 15 minutes ... cause I'm thinking, it must be my oven, really slow.
tick tick tick
Done. But horror! ... it's still all a jiggly and runny. So I consult G, a far better chef than I. G immediately asks to see the recipe.
"Hmmmm, let me see the milk can," he asks.
I retrieve the can from the trash.
"Condensed milk Brent! ... you've used evaporated milk!" (laughs)
"Oh," say I.
Lesson learned.
Damn.

Hmmm... sort of like a key lime creme brule?
haha, yea, you can get a key lime creme brule. maybe you should bake naked too..
When all else fails read the labels
. Hope that the rest went well.
Hahaha, I await your perfect one next time.
ryc: don't think I'll go out this weekend...need to prepare for my test next week. =)
Hey it still looks okay so probably I might eat it without knowing it is actually a disaster. LOL
it looks pretty good to me. and if it doesn't to you, just smoke or take a few shots and then you'll be feelin hungry =P
I hardly cook anything using a recipe, hence, almost never got it wrong.
Key Lime soup? Key lime sauce?? hahaha... oh well ... the next one will be fab!
hahaha ah well, everyone makes mistakes. i don't know if i would eat that though, it's got to be prettty sour if you used evaporated instead of condensed milk.
well, hope there's time to make another one.
Yikes...better luck next time!
that's bad. bake another one quickly! =P
omg. u're not alone! everyone confuses condensed with evaporated! .. no worries. i'm sure it still tasted nice.. mix it with pudding or yogurt or something.. i'm sure it'd be tasty.
